Steve Jobs: Visionary Or Jerk

Steve Jobs was one of the best entrepreneurs and tech designers in history after one looks at what he built and apples succsess. However, for those that may not know, Steve happened to have a semi-controversial past in leadership roles and creating things at Apple. He has been known to occasionally work people extremely hard to get the best results out of them. He has notoriously yelled at head engineers and programs about various features involved in products.

He also borderline put his family on government assistance when he was worth hundreds of millions. (Wait, this isn’t a hate story I promise.) In almost every movie that depicts his character, he is known to have blow ups and anger issues. However, this may have been only part of his vision.

In my opinion, he only worked so hard and had such great ideas for future products that it makes sense and may have been useful to let out some steam. (maybe not in the ways he did though haha). The anger and jerk mentality comes with the vision in his case, but not in all cases. You don’t need to be angry to be smart.

Steve fundamentally changed the way the world works today through work, daily applications, gadgets and more. While he had displayed some unorthodox strategies, they seemed to have been what made the company such a success. When he left Apple and was kicked out, the company started to drown. However, when he came back with the same if not more anger, passion, and vision, it changed humanity. Socrates said, “There is no genius without a touch of madness.” This adequately describes Steve I believe. While he was a bit mad, he also had an immense passion and vision for the company.

There are thousands and thousands of entrepreneurs who can be nice and also a visionary. The question is can they be genius and even a little mad. I believe many high performers are just as Steve was. Another thought provoking issue can be stated as “Would you rather be famous, genius, and not well liked or a no one and very well liked”. Is Steve Jobs a visionary or a Jerk? I think the answer maybe both, but the issue is your decision and point of view.
