Long term versus short term. Gary Vaynerchuck refers to these as macro and micro through his content which has helped me learn the difference and why they are both critical.
Macro actions are decisions that affect and change your quarter to quarter, year to year, or decade to decade results and micro-actions. These decisions are ones like starting a company, getting married, having a child, making long-term bets, or improvements to society. This helps define and showcase your character, personal mission, or results on the world.
Micro-actions are the day to day, week to week, and maybe even month to month decisions you are making. These are what make the macro plans come true. They are mainly a collection of the habits and qualities built up that you display regularly mixed with your little actions that determine your mood and well being in a short period.
Both types of actions are unequivocally necessary to get where you are trying to go. I have found being aware of your macro/ micro-actions to a great extent has helped improve my life extraordinarily. Start with the long-term, big decisions, and planning and reverse engineer from there. Once you have figured out what you want to achieve over the macro portions of things, look at what you are currently doing to accomplish those things and what maybe you should be doing to achieve those goals. By re-evaluating your circumstances, you may find something incredible about yourself or about what you need to do to make your vision.
