Murphy’s Law was introduced to me through a movie called Interstellar, and in the film, Mathew McConaughey talks about all things going drastically wrong if they are allowed to. The law merely states this: Anything that can go wrong will go wrong, and at the worst possible moment. What a depressing law. It was named after an engineer in the Air Force during 1949. In life, I have found myself engulfed in the full effects of Murphy’s law at least a few times in life. When it is in fact, it just seems like the negative news and circumstances keep building up while having a domino effect. Many people just let it run them over and accept it. Here are some of my tips for dealing with these circumstances.
Keep Working
One thing that happens to people during Murphy’s law is that they give up until things settle down. I believe this is a poor idea. While you are “waiting” until things settle down, you are still missing work or something you need to be doing as well as potentially opening the door for more problems to enter. If you keep working, you will eventually start to work past your circumstances. Even if it means going through the motions for a couple of days, doing the work is what solves problems and makes things better in life.
Make a Strategy
If you make a strategy, then you can focus on getting past your problems and circumstances. It also lays out a game plan for how you would like to manage the struggles in the present and the future. Take each battle and situation, map out how you can best deal with them, and deal with each thing one by one. If you do this, you are effectively setting yourself up for success to beat Murphy’s law.
